The Vale of the White Horse District Council declared a Climate Emergency in February, and are following this up by investigating what they should do to become Carbon Neutral as soon as possible.
They have now formed a Climate Emergency Advisory Committee*, whose job is to identify “how the council can contribute to national and countywide targets on climate and energy issues”. The committee met for the first time on October 15th to consider the choices the Council has as to the extent of their action. They decided to recommend to the District Cabinet that the Vale Council adopt the target of becoming a Carbon Neutral Council by 2030, and that they adopt the target of becoming a Carbon Neutral District over a longer time period, 75% zero carbon by 2030, with the aspirational target of becoming 100% carbon neutral by 2045.
