I’m a bit slow in commenting on the announcement: “Boris Johnson to chair new Climate change committee”, but it seemed a bit unimportant, given he is working 25 hours a day on B…… .
The new environment bill aims to improve air and water quality, tackle plastic pollution and restore nature, once the UK leaves the EU’s environmental laws. And the government can be taken to court if it fails to meet agreed green targets. But Greenpeace lawyers point out the date for setting those targets is 31 October 2022 – and the government will then have 15 years to meet the goals. That is in 2037, which is 7 to 12 years after the dates most communities have set themselves for carbon neutrality targets! (BBC News, 17 Oct 2019)
So was this announcement worth a comment? Apart from commenting that the announcement was on October 17th. Maybe the Extinction Rebellion world wide climate demonstrations were noticed?
