The Big Butterfly Count has started!

Do the Big Butterfly Count during the school holidays

The Big Butterfly Count is a UK-wide survey aimed at helping to assess the health of our environment simply by counting the amount and type of butterflies (and some day-flying moths) we see.

All you have to do between Friday 17 July and Sunday 9 August, is to download an identification chart from the Big Butterfly Count website.

  • Choose a place to spot butterflies and moths.
  • Watch for 15 minutes.
  • Record which species you see on the Big Butterfly Count website

And there is also a butterfly photography competition at bit.ly/2OyTv7b (Guardian, 17th July)
